Run For The Roses
Street Sense just won the 133rd Kentucky Derby. As a legal resident of Kentucky, I have a certain amount of pride in this event. It's easily one of the classiest contests in modern sports, made even more evident this year by Queen Elizabeth's attendance. However, even that is offset by something else happening this year. For the first time ever, the Kentucky Derby has a corporate sponsor, Yum! Brands, Inc., a Fortune 500 corporation. I expect to see advertisements in baseball stadiums, on racecars, and every 90 seconds on ESPN. But seeing a big Taco Bell billboard at Churchill Downs is just a little demeaning. Plus, I hear the Queen prefers Del Taco.
